Railwright

About This Game Railwright is a railway engineering sandbox where you design your own rail vehicles, build the tracks they run on, and put your ideas to the test. Start with simple machines, a workshop, and a short stretch of rail. Build a vehicle, drive it yourself, construct the railway ahead, and haul cargo to earn the money and knowledge you need to move forward. As your railway grows, experiment with new components, improve your designs, research new technology, and develop increasingly capable forms of railway traction. The railway is not something you are simply given. You build the machine. You build the track. You find out if it works. DESIGN YOUR OWN RAIL VEHICLES Build rail vehicles from modular components and create machines suited to the job you want them to do. A lightweight vehicle may be enough for a small delivery. A heavier load may demand a completely different approach. As new components and technologies become available, return to the workshop, revise your designs, and build better machines. There is no single correct locomotive waiting to be unlocked — the vehicle that runs on your railway is the one you create. BUILD THE RAILWAY AHEAD Your vehicles need somewhere to go. Plan routes through the world, construct track, connect industries and destinations, and gradually turn isolated sections of rail into a working network. The route you choose is part of the engineering problem. Where the railway goes — and how you build it — is up to you. BUILD. TEST. IMPROVE. A design that looks good in the workshop still has to work on the railway. Drive your creations yourself, put them under load, and discover where your design succeeds — or where it needs another trip back to the workshop. Change the vehicle. Change the route. Try a different solution. Railwright is about learning through experimentation rather than simply purchasing the next better train. DEVELOP NEW TECHNOLOGY Your railway begins with simple forms of traction. Complete transport work, earn money, research new ideas, and experiment with increasingly advanced railway technology. New components do more than make numbers bigger. They give you new engineering problems to solve and new ways to approach them. Railwright takes inspiration from the evolution of railway technology, but the machines you create do not have to recreate history. The technology provides the tools. What you build with them is your decision. GROW FROM A MACHINE INTO A NETWORK Every successful delivery gives you another reason to expand. Connect new industries. Improve your workshop. Build new branches. Develop more capable vehicles. Move more cargo. What begins as a small experimental railway can gradually become a larger transportation network — one designed, constructed, and operated by you. Key Features Design and build your own rail vehicles from modular components. Drive the machines you create and test your designs through real transport work. Build your own railway and decide how industries and destinations should be connected. Experiment and iterate when a vehicle or route does not perform the way you expected. Haul cargo and grow your railway economy to fund new construction and research. Research new technology and develop increasingly capable forms of railway traction. Expand from manual operation toward a larger railway network as your operation grows. Explore an open-ended engineering sandbox where the railway is shaped by your own solutions.
